Personal statements

We support student through three dedicated personal statement sessions that take the student through the process of writing tailored personal statements for their chosen courses and universities. All sessions are run by Cambridge-educated consultants.

Across three dedicated 45-minute sessions, delivered either in person or online, we help students to:

  1. Draft a compelling personal statement
  2. Improve it using exclusive templates and personalised feedback on every draft
  3. Understand what university admissions tutors are really looking for
  4. Tailor their statement to their chosen course and university
  5. Strengthen their writing skills in ways that go beyond university applications, including writing cover letters and job applications.

Here’s a session-by-session breakdown of the personal statement support we offer:

Session 1

In this session, students will learn the fundamentals of personal statement writing and how to add a genuine personal touch, something many statements often lack. They will explore what makes a personal statement stand out to university admissions tutors. Students will also have the opportunity to draft a paragraph and receive live, constructive feedback.

Session 2

Students will analyse examples of both strong and weak personal statements, and critically assess their structure using personalised templates tailored to their chosen course and university. They will then use these templates to produce the first draft of their own personal statement. Individualised feedback will be provided ahead of the final session to guide further refinement.

Session 3

The third session will focus on refining the personal statement and identifying any gaps that could be strengthened. Emphasis will be placed on the value of extra- and super-curricular activities, the kind that universities look for and that give applicants a competitive edge. Students will then be asked to produce a revised draft, which will be reviewed with detailed, constructive feedback to help elevate the quality of their personal statement further.
